I wasn't surprised. We have done a great job in those situation all year. Ever since I have been here. We have been great in those situation. Obviously, you have different options. You can hand the ball to Marshawn. That is a great option. You can also throw it, which is a great option. We thought we had them. I thought it was a touchdown when I threw it. When I let it go, I thought it was game over.
Speaking after losing Super Bowl XLIX
To be here back-to-back years shows a lot about our football team and what we can do. It means a lot to me just to be able to come back and have that championship mindset throughout the whole entire season, and to potentially win back-to-back years is huge.
My goal is to make the other 10 guys better on the field. So through ups and downs, you stay mentally focused, stay mentally locked into it and you keep fighting for one another, and that's what we were able to do those last three minutes of the game.
I believe God has put me on this earth to serve others. That's why there's nothing more fulfilling than walking into a child's hospital room and finding out how they're doing ... listening to their stories.
In terms of my legacy on the field, I want to be considered a winner. That’s ultimately the goal in terms of playing quarterback, is win, win, win. That’s all that really matters at the end of the day
For me, I think the biggest goal is for us to win because of all the hard work we've put in this year. The journey that we've been on has been unbelievable. We've had a great journey and we've come a long way, so to get back back-to-back years is pretty special. So hopefully we get this win.
Last year the kind of theme that we talked about was, 'Why not us?' I kind of told the team at the beginning of the year a story that my dad used to tell me. He used to always say to me, 'Russell, why not you?' So I kind of explained that story to the team early in the year in a players-only meeting, and kind of said, 'Why not me? Why not us?' That type of idea. So we kind of fed off the idea of, 'Why not us?'
In terms of my faith, my faith is everything: God comes first, family and friends come second, and football comes third. I think when you keep it in that order, great things happen to you. You don't stress out about much.
